From the Publisher
This user-friendly book provides a practical introduction to
gynaecological ultrasound. It describes and explains background
anatomy and physiology, instrumentation and how to make the best use
of equipment. Emphasis is placed on how to maximise image quality,
and how to recognise normal and pathological features. The volume
also assesses other relevant diagnostic techniques and various
management strategies, and evaluates the role of ultrasound as part
of patient management. It includes chapters on pathology of the
uterus, ovaries and andexae, paediatric and trauma cases, together
with management of infertility and other gynaecological perspectives
of patient management. Illustrated throughout with numerous high-
quality ultrasound images and line drawing, this is essential reading
for practitioners in training, including radiologists, gynaecologists
and sonographers.

Description: This book provides a basic background for those using
ultrasound in diagnosis of pelvic disease. The chapters are brief and
problem oriented.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide healthcare professionals with
useful information in an easy-to-use format. These objectives are
important and helpful in everyday practice.
Audience: The book is written for those in training, especially
sonographers and residents. This is the expressed goal of the book
and it is appropriately written for that audience.
Features: A basic treatment of ultrasound physics and how this may
influence scanning strategies opens the book. A variety of pelvic
diseases are covered, with additional time spent on acute pelvic
diseases and infertility, both of which add to the usefulness of the
book. These sections are what make the book most useful. Several
illustrations, especially in early chapters, are quite useful. The
book is not comprehensive and would not be used as a complete
reference.
Assessment: This book would be helpful as a basic introduction for
those who work with ultrasound, or order ultrasound studies in the
care of their patients. It provides a helpful day-to-day manual, and
would be helpful in training, but would not serve as a comprehensive
